Why a francophone education
Conseil scolaire FrancoSud has close to 3,300 students attending fourtheen francophone schools in southern Alberta and offering educational programs from kindergarten to Grade 12. Ten of our schools are Public and four are Catholic.
Students live in an environment where the first language of communication is French. In francophone schools, students "live" their francophonie, which is an integral part of the identity construction of the student.
Attending a francophone school allows students to identify with the French language and culture, in addition to learning English. In fact, students complete their program of study in French while following the same first language curriculum of English Language Arts as every school in Alberta.
Developing francophone pride is one of the priorities at Conseil scolaire FrancoSud. French culture is valued not only as a way for students to express themselves, but also as a way to be part of a vibrant and dynamic community. Students are encouraged to be active members of the francophone community, as the Board works in partnership with several francophone community organizations.
Students have the chance to participate in large gatherings of Francophone students. This allows them to make new meaningful encounters. Students can also grow through sport and physical activity in French.
Our schools provide a safe and welcoming learning environment, where the success of each student is important. Furthermore, differences are respected and valued. The welfare of students is at the heart of our actions.
We are committed to providing a high quality education at the forefront of new technologies.
Students attending our Catholic schools live their Catholic values and are committed to their faith. In that specific setting, we offer an education and a way of life steeped in the teachings and values of the Gospel of Jesus and the Catholic Church.
A variety of extracurricular activities, several optional classes, cultural tours, Spanish class and organized sports are just some of the many activities offered in our schools.
